Your Mission

Reporting to the Art Director, your role is to lead the Animation Team of a SpatialOS game built in Unreal. You will help to define and set the benchmark for our in-game animation, utilising your extensive experience to help Improbable create class-leading AAA character animation.

You will lead an experienced animation team with team members located in both Cambridge and London. You will also be liaising with multiple games and technology teams within Improbable to share knowledge and help define how we build and implement animation content as a company. You will be expected to facilitate quick iteration, timely delivery of requested features and the generation of high quality animation assets.

You will collate and distribute all forms of feedback and request features, working with production to help define priorities and roadmaps. You will anticipate risks, spot gaps and direct your team in generating all required animation content.

  • Being responsible for leading a close-knit, talented animation team to produce inspiring results with rapid development cycles, strong iterative process and efficient delivery of assets.
  • Working as part of a small but growing team of veteran developers. We are building a working environment where collaboration is key across all disciplines.
  • Working closely with creative leads, designers, artists and programmers to create class leading character animation, as well as leveraging the next generation of games technology.
  • You will identify and establish pipelines independently based on the requirements of the project and team.

We’d like to hear if you if you identify with the following:

  • Master of creating character animation, be it keyframe, motion captured or cinematic.
  • Master of the principles of animation.
  • Excellent in defining and prioritising workloads for a team through Jira or another tracking methodology.
  • Excellent in identifying issues and proposing solutions that improve animation process or discipline.
  • Expert skills in Maya and Motionbuilder.
  • A strong understanding of the technical constraints of game animation as well as a good technical sensibility to help evaluate and propose tools and pipeline features.
  • A well motivated team player who thrives in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.A strong sense of leadership, responsibility and good overall vision of a project.
  • Able to define workflows and tutorials that guide the entire animation effort.
  • Unreal Engine game engine experience a definite plus.
  • Good communication skills be they written or verbal.
  • Desire to mentor junior team members.
  • Experience with First Person and Third Person animation a definite plus.
  • Able to demonstrate your skills through an online portfolio/showreel.
