Please join us in welcoming the fantastic folks at PlayRaven onto SpatialOS. You may have heard of them as the experienced Finnish mobile studio behind Spymaster, Winterstate and Robocide. Their mission is to make ambitious mobile games unlike any made before, and we’re excited to see what our technology partnership can tell us about bringing the benefits of SpatialOS to mobile development.
PlayRaven’s technology partnership with Improbable coincides with the start of development on a new game project, codenamed Project Metro, which will explore applications of SpatialOS to mobile game development. In a press release, PlayRaven CEO Lasse Seppänen said the project’s concept is “a truly groundbreaking MMO on mobile that will use [SpatialOS] systems to create a uniquely engaging player experience. Our prototype for Project Metro is the first step towards that goal.”
More details on the project are set to be announced in early 2018.
At Improbable, we’ve explored the idea of mobile development with SpatialOS before, and have integrations with engines commonly used for mobile development. We believe that working with an experienced mobile studio will help us to understand the best way for SpatialOS to work with the unique workflows and challenges of development for mobile platforms.
“We’re delighted to be working with PlayRaven, who bring extensive experience of delivering successful games to multiple mobile formats,” said Herman Narula, Improbable’s co-founder and CEO. “Mobile game developers and players are looking for the kind of richer, more engaging experiences that SpatialOS is designed to make possible. Our technical partnership with PlayRaven will help to develop SpatialOS as a platform to enable the innovative mobile games of the future.”
